Jimmy Cowan

1926 — 68

Cowan is regarded as one of Scotland’s finest goalkeepers who inspired the international team to Wembley glory in 1949 and 1951. The 1949 match in particular is remembered as “Cowan’s Wembley”. Between 1948 and 1952 Cowan was able to hold on to the number one shirt ahead of Old Firm rivals and he won 25 caps in total while with the unfashionable Greenock club. Jimmy was a Scottish Cup finalist in 1948 with Morton and also made three appearances with the Scottish League.
