"Wembley Wizards" ball 1928

On the 31st of March 1828, Scotland played England in the famous “Wembley Wizards” Game. This ball survives thanks to Scotland’s goalkeeper, Jack Harkness. It was used in one of the most famous games in Scottish football: Scotland’s 5-1 victory over England at Wembley in 1928. The Scottish team were short in stature and was not expected to win. Heavy rain and muddy conditions helped the small, agile Scots as the slippery surface proved more of a problem for the larger England players. The lightweight Scots found it easier to keep their balance. Harkness stuffed the ball under his shirt at the end of the match and gave it to the SFA.
